The conference adopted several resolutions on the community’s stand on terrorism. It unanimously resolved that acts of terrorism were dastardly and anti-social and that the government should take appropriate measures to stop them.

Honestly speaking, every time I see the Muslims being singled out to show their intent to fight terrorism, I doubt whether this is a democratic country? Why isn’t a Hindu or anyone belonging to any other religion for that matter, not being asked to prove this loyalty to the nation?

Bijoy, I don’t think it is a matter of loyalty to country as much as it is loyalty to religion. I’ve never bought into the wholesale condemnation of all of Islam because of terrorists, but who better to call on to combat terrorists?
When the Ku Klux Klan was running rampant in the US, and claiming to represent Christianity, it was other Christians who banded together to marginalize them and their cowardly acts.
They came from our midsts so it was up to us, no one else, to bring them down.
Likewise, radical Jihadists are coming out of a minority of Islam and without the help of other Muslims, the west cannot defeat them.
I applaud the efforts of Muslims to combat terror and look forward to when we can all honor religious differences instead of starting wars over them.

This is a concrete step being taken to counter the unnecessary evil of Islamophobia. By taking a clear stance against terrorism, this effort also corrects the perpetuated notion that Muslims are terrorists.

While the spread of terrorism is mostly by Islamic fundamentalist groups, the worst affected are also the Muslims. Whole nations of Muslims like Afghanistan, Sudan, Iraq, etc. are badly affected. It will take decades for these nations and the terrorism affected Muslim communities in other such countries to recover from the scourge and lead a normal life.
It is the Muslims who have to come forward to take up the task of marginalizing and ultimately ending terrorism, as Lewis waters has said. So, the commitment shown by these Muslims is a welcome move and it needs to be followed everywhere, with the active support of other communities.

Qur’an says killing one human being is equal to killing total human race.
Islam does not support terrorism in any way may it be so called Muslim terrorists or State terrorists like some present rulers like Bush etc.
